Man pleads guilty to amended charge in child death case

CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) - The man accused in the case involving the death of a child has entered a guilty plea, according to 14th Judicial District Court officials.

On Tuesday, Efrem O'gwin entered the plea to an amended charge of attempted second-degree murder in the June 2011 death of an 18-month-old.

Judge Wilford Carter sentenced O'gwin to 35 years in the Louisiana Department of Corrections.

Assistant District Attorney Lori Nunn prosecuted the case for the Severe Child Abuse division of the District Attorney's Office.

Nunn said the state appreciates Carter taking the offer and that the victim's family agreed with the resolution of the case.
