Second arrest made in Jennings shooting incident

JEFF DAVIS PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

Jefferson Davis Parish deputies have made a second arrest in connection with a shooting incident that happened on La. 26 in Jennings on Jan. 15.

According to a news release from the Jeff Davis Sheriff's Office, 23-year-old Gavin C. Williams, of Jennings, turned himself in to detectives Tuesday upon notification that an arrest warrant was issued.

Williams was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. 

Authorities said Williams was shot three times by an occupant of a Jennings residence on Jan. 15.

Authorities said he was driven to Jennings American Legion Hospital by his associate, Brock Fontenot after the shooting. 

Authorities said Fontenot was arrested shortly after the incident on Jan. 16.

Williams was booked into Jefferson Davis Parish Jail Tuesday after being released from the hospital.

He was later released on bond. 

Authorities said the investigation into the incident continues.

    Family members identify the victim as 29-year-old Kelli Bonnette. Her uncle, John Manning, says it also injured his 77-year-old Mother-in-law.  Four adults and three children were rescued from the fire. Nita Duplantis remains in the hospital fighting for her life according to the family.

    A towing vessel that was uninspected began taking on water, then ran aground in the Calcasieu Ship Channel early Monday morning, officials with the Coast Guard said.
