TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
On Wednesday morning at 3:50, Tyler police responded to a residential burglary call on Barbara Street.
The homeowner told police that she and her family were asleep when they heard a loud crashing noise in the home's front room.
She got up to investigate, and saw that the window was shattered. The suspect had thrown a bicycle through the window to gain entry into the house.
The homeowner's 18-year-old son grabbed a firearm and went to the window, looking outside. Police say he observed a black male suspect wearing all black and carrying a duffel bag standing in the front yard near the window. The son fired three rounds into the front yard, causing the suspect to flee from the area.
Police checked the area and failed to locate the suspect and found no sign that anyone was struck by the gunfire.
If you have any information about the suspect or the crime, please call the Tyler Police Department at 903-531-1000, or call Crimestoppers at 903-597-CUFF. Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charges filed against the suspect in this case or any felony case.
