The following is a news release from Lake Charles Memorial Hospital:

The Southwest Louisiana Hospital Association, which operates as Lake Charles Memorial Health System, is pleased to announce its Board of Trustees for fiscal year 2013. As the only locally governed community hospital in Lake Charles, Memorial relies on community leaders in finance, media, public policy and business to volunteer their time and talents.

"These healthcare advocates fulfill their fiduciary roles by sitting on compliance, audit, finance and compensation committees," said Larry Graham, Memorial's President and Chief Executive Officer. "These committees are subject to external reviews by accounting firms, as well as audits by state and federal agencies and bodies like The Joint Commission that review the actual delivery of patient care."

 Installed during the board's annual meeting, the newly elected officers and directors are:

State Appellate Court Judge Gene Thibodeaux serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Southwest Louisiana Hospital Association, which operates as Lake Charles Memorial Health System.

Denise Emerson Rau, President of Rau Financial Group, will serve as chairman-elect of the Lake Charles Memorial Health System Board of Trustees.

Dr. Bryan Barootes, a family medicine physician with Memorial/LSUHSC Family Medicine Center, serves on the Memorial Health System Board of Trustees as president of the medical staff.

Dr. Ben Thompson, a pulmonologist with Pulmonary Associates of Southwest Louisiana, serves on the Memorial Health System Board of Trustees as president-elect of the medical staff.

    If you don't remember we just had an election last month, don't feel bad, voter turnout was abysmal.  However, that doesn't change the cost of holding the election, meaning when hardly anyone shows up to vote, the cost per voter who actually casts a ballot is high. In fact, here in Calcasieu Parish, it would be cheaper to send each voter to see a movie, than it is to let them in the voting booth. Lynn Jones loves elections!  And why not.     Months of undercover work led Calcasieu's Combined Anti-Drug Team (CAT) to perform a drug raid on two homes in Lake Charles back in late October. Six were arrested and booked, but one of those suspects was able to get back on the streets that same day, leaving many upset, including city council member Luvertha August.
