MIAMI, FL (WBRC) -

The University of Alabama Crimson Tide has claimed their 15th national title, the third in four years, after dominating Notre Dame in the Discover BCS National Championship game, 42-14.

The Crimson Tide began the game with a strong drive right through the Notre Dame defense. Five plays saw Alabama move into the endzone, including a 29-yard pass reception by Kevin Norwood and the score on a 20-yard rush by Eddie Lacy. Jeremy Shelley's extra point was good.

A series full of incomplete passes saw Notre Dame forced to punt after 3 plays. Alabama started up a 10-play drive to cover 61 yards. The highlight of the drive came as Lacy broke through the Notre Dame defense, only to be tripped up by a defender 3 yards short of the touchdown. The Tide scored on the next play as they feigned the rush before quarterback A.J. McCarron tossed the ball to Michael Williams, who was waiting in the endzone. Shelley added the extra point with 6:14 remaining in the first quarter.

Alabama grabbed another touchdown at the beginning of the second quarter. The Notre Dame offense was forced to punt after 5 plays and Alabama began a 8-play drive to cover 80 yards. Receivers Kevin Norwood and Amari Cooper made the big gains in the drive with a 25-yard reception and a 27-yard reception, respectively.T.J. Yeldon got the touchdown with a 1-yard rush with only 4 seconds having passed in the 2nd quarter. Shelley's kick was again good.

Notre Dame began to get their defensive legs underneath them in the 2nd quarter, forcing Alabama to punt twice. Unfortunately, the Irish offense was still being bullied by the Tide defense and remained scoreless. Alabama found their fourth touchdown right before the half came to a close. The 9-play drive saw the Tide cover 71 yards in 3:12. A pass to Christion Jones for 27 yards placed Alabama in the red zone and Eddie Lacy grabbed the score with an 11-yard rush on the following play with 31 seconds remaining in the half. Shelley's kick set the score at 28-0 to go into the locker room.

Coming back from halftime, Notre Dame was able to press down towards the goal line, but an interception by Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix stopped the effort short at the Alabama 3-yard line. The following Alabama drive covered the remaining 97 yards in 10 plays. Amari Cooper got the score after grabbing a McCarron pass while wide open, going 34 yards into the endzone. Shelley's kick put Alabama up 35-0 over Notre Dame.

The Fighting Irish got their chance to score on the following drive. The 9-play drive covered 85 yards in 3:26. A 31-yard Everett Golson pass to T.J. Jones put Notre Dame inside of Alabama territory. A few plays later, another pass to Jones for 14 yards got them to the 3-yard line. Golson claimed the touchdown after rushing for 2-yards with just over 4 minutes remaining in the third. Kyle Brindza's extra point was good.

Alabama negated the Notre Dame score on their next possession. the 14-play drive covered 86 yards and took 7:41 of gameclock time. T.J. Yeldon and Eddie Lacy rushed for several yards towards the goal, but the score was claimed with another pass to Amari Cooper for 19 yards with 11:27 remaining in the game.

A connection with DeVaris Daniels covered 28 yards to the Alabama 17. Notre Dame's Theo Riddick entered the endzone with a 6-yard pass with 7:51 remaining in the game.
