MERRYVILLE, LA (KPLC) -

The Beauregard Parish School Board has voted to allow seismic testing to take place on its Merryville school property.

Superintendent Tim Cooley said the proposal came from a contractor working for Halcon Resources, a company that conducts oil exploration.

Cooley said the panel approved the testing and has asked that the contract length be shortened from 24 months to 18 months.

Cooley said there are still steps that need to be confirmed and approved before any seismic work takes place, however.
