LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Details are still being released in an early Friday morning incident between Lake Charles police officers and at least two suspects.

The incident happened near the I-10 overpass on Opelousas Street in Lake Charles.

Two people are being treated for gunshot wounds and were taken to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and later transferred to a Lafayette hospital.

The two police officers involved were reportedly treated and released for other injuries that they received.

Authorities have said that the incident resulted after a pursuit.

On Friday afternoon, the Lake Charles Police Department held a press briefing to release more information in the incident. You can see that coverage HERE.

Louisiana State Police are investigating the incident.

"It frequently occurs that a local agency will request our assistance in the investigation. That way, we have an independent review of things to ensure there was nothing that took place that shouldn't have taken place," said Troop D Sgt. James Anderson.
