(RNN) - Jack Klugman, best known for his role as the sloppy roommate Oscar Madison in TV's The Odd Couple has died, according to ABC 7 Los Angeles.
He was 90 years old.
He also starred in the lead role as a crime-solving coroner in Quincy M.E., which ran from 1976-1983, and he was one of the jurors in the 1957 classic teleplay Twelve Angry Men. He played an Alcoholics Anonymous alongside the late Jack Lemmon in The Days of Wine and Roses.
Klugman played the gruff-voiced, messy sports writer who was roommate to Tony Randall's fastidious Felix Unger in the television adaptation of the hit Neil Simon play and movie. The TV show ran from 1970-1975. Klugman and Randall were close friends off the screen.
He was a pioneer TV actor, appearing in the 1950s and 1960s in episodes of such early TV shows as Naked City, The Twilight Zone, The Untouchables and Playhouse 90. He performed on Broadway as well as in film.
He was born in Philadelphia in 1922.
He is survived by a wife and two sons.
