LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
Calcasieu Parish authorities are investigating an accident involving a car that collided with a Union Pacific train early Monday morning. Union Pacific is also conducting their own investigation.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's deputies were called to a rail crossing on Tank Farm Road near Tom Hebert Road at 12:11 a.m.
Commander James McGee said that CPSO has ruled that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. One of the occupants of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. McGee says there were three occupants in the vehicle, and they were lucky to survive.
The car was eastbound on Tank Farm Road when it crashed into the train, which consisted of several tank cars.
There did not appear to be any danger to nearby residents though it's not clear what the train was carrying.
The crossing does not have warning lights or a crossing gate.
Lake Charles Fire crews, Ward 3 District 2 Fire Department, Acadian Ambulance and railroad officials were at the location investigating Monday morning.
