School Shooting - KPLC 7 News, Lake Charles, Louisiana

School Shooting

Hello everyone. This is Cynthia Arceneaux from the KPLC Newsroom. The whole country is in mourning over the mass killings at an elementary school in Connecticut. Reporter Theresa Schmidt is working on a story on how to talk to your young children about such tragedy and violence. We'll have that story and the latest on the suspect in the killings, a 20 year old man who is among the dead.

In other news, Governor Bobby Jindal has slowly but surely brought on the privatization of many institutions in the state that were once run by the government. And now that privatization is spilling over into the charity hospital system. The LSU Board of Supervisors has agreed to turn over operations of its public hospitals in New Orleans, Houma and Lafayette to nonprofit corporations that run private hospitals in the cities.

And why are more oil slicks popping up in the Gulf of Mexico? Could it be from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon spill? Officials believe several thousand barrels of oil could still be trapped in the wreckage.  Join us for these stories and more today on Live At Five and 7News At Six.
