Local Vietnam veteran fighting to change property tax exemptions

Good Thursday morning to you!  Britney Glaser here with a look at some of the stories we are covering this morning on Sunrise:

*A local Vietnam veteran is fighting to change a Louisiana law to benefit disabled vets when it comes to rising property taxes.  We will have a live interview in the studio with Calcasieu Tax Assessor Wendy Aguillard and Al Cochran, the man behind this push.

*School has been canceled today for students at Combre-Fondel Elementary in Lake Charles because of a damaged pipe.  We will keep you posted on this situation as crews work to repair it.

*The holiday season is a time that many of us graze around the clock on Christmas sweets and the fixins of a full-out meal.  In my Healthcast, I will share details about properly preparing, cooling down and storing food to avoid food borne illnesses.

*There is a meeting happening today for the public to learn more about road construction options connected to the Ameristar Casino-Resort project.  Those details will be shared.

*Topping national news, more details are surfacing about the shooting spree inside an Oregon mall.  The suspect has been identified and authorities say they do not believe he knew his victims.

*Meteorologist Cedric Haynes is tracking the next weather system that is bringing a gradual warm-up.
