LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
The 2013 budget for the Port of Lake Charles was presented to the Personnel and Audit Committee of the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District on Tuesday morning.
The budget includes a $4 million operating loss for 2013, and losses are projected to continue into 2014. But the port says the loss is all part of a "ramping-up" for future projects in the Lake Charles area.
The port is projecting around the same dollar amount in revenue for 2013 as they generated this year, but an increase in expenses causes the loss. One of the major increases will come in dredging. The port expects to spend around $250,000 more on dredging than in 2012.
The Personnel and Audit Committee of Chairman Walter Sanchez, Member Barbara McManus and President Harry Hank did approve the budget for 2013. But the budget must now be approved by the Port board on Monday, Dec. 17.
