BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana legislators are expected to meet with law enforcement officials Wednesday to discuss the legal issues surrounding millions of pounds of improperly stored explosives.

Meanwhile, the voluntary evacuation near Camp Minden in Webster Parish enters its sixth day.

There are several legal issues at hand that legislators want to get sorted out. A delegation of representatives is working to gather information for a hearing that is expected to be held in January.

Rep. Jeff Thompson, R-Bossier City, and others will meet with the Louisiana State Police to get updates on the removal process and the criminal investigation. Thompson said he wants to create stronger laws to prevent this kind of extremely dangerous situation from happening again.

"I've been dealing with staff in Baton Rouge and in the Homeland Security division to find out what are the laws currently on the books that they have violated, what are some other models across the nation that work, apparently," Thompson said.

He added the cost of this investigation and removal operation will also be addressed in the hearing.

He said the company responsible, Explo, should pick up the tab, not the taxpayer.

Explo will be encouraged to be at the hearing, but lawmakers said they aren't optimistic company reps will attend.
