FORT POLK, LA (KPLC) -

A mass casualty evacuation exercise is being held at Fort Polk on Monday and through the week utilizing first responder resources from a number of parishes.

On site are the Calcasieu Parish OEP, the Lake Charles Fire Department, DeRidder Police and Fire, agencies from the Leesville and Alexandria areas as well as army resources from Fort Polk.

Bret VanCamp, commander of the First Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, said he hopes these exercises will help prepare the area for any potential threat  that may arise.

The scenario: A Category 4 hurricane hits the Louisiana coast prompting an evacuation north. A terrorist's vehicle was in that evacuation and an agent in the vehicle exploded releasing a chemical agent. First responders are dealing with over 200 casualties and working with area hospitals to complete the training exercises.

KPLC's Gerron Jordan will have more on later editions.
