LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

The Messiah Chorus returned for its 72nd performance in McNeese State University's Francis G. Bulber Auditorium on Sunday.

The performance began in 1939 and became known in the community as the even to kick off the holiday season.

With the exception of 2011, there has been a performance every year since 1939.  This year's performance was directed by Colette Tanner, Francis Bulber's daughter.

"I have some pretty big shows to fill" said Tanner. "But with God's hand it'll be a great show" she said.

Catch the sounds from the chorus tonight on Nightcast.
