BEAUREGARD PARISH, LA (KPLC) -
The state legislative auditor has conducted an investigative audit on alleged activities of former Beauregard Parish Manager Elton Pickering.
Among other things, the audit findings include: Alleged improper sales and donation of Police Jury property, burial of asbestos on Police Jury property, and alleged violations of the state public bid law.
The audit report includes a letter from Pickering's attorney, suggesting that the longtime Beauregard Parish employee did not deliberately do anything wrong and has lived a life dedicated to public service.
According to an audit summary, the probe was initiated after the state office received allegations regarding Pickering.
"During our audit, other matters and transactions came to our attention and we expanded our scope to address them," the summary states.
A general financial audit of the Beauregard Parish Police Jury is due to be released publicly on Monday. The panel has received a D grade reportedly due to findings in the investigative audit.
We'll have more on the investigative audit on later editions of KPLC 7 News.
