A two-car crash on Highway 614 in Jackson County, Miss. killed a four-year-old boy from Starks, according to authorities.

WLOX-TV reports that accident happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday about a half mile west of the Highway 613 intersection.

The Dodge Dakota pickup truck, driven by 24-year-old Darren Gaspard, of Starks, was traveling east on Highway 614 when a westbound Toyota Camry crossed the center line and collided head on with the truck.

The mother, who was riding in the bed of the truck, was thrown from the vehicle. A 4-year-old and 8-month-old were reportedly inside the vehicle.

Four-year-old Darren Gaspard Jr. was taken to USA Medical Center in Mobile, Ala. and died Thursday morning of his injuries.

Authorities said 8-month-old William Gaspard was transported to Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula with life threatening injuries.

Father Darren and the 25-year-old mother, Jessica, were also taken to Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, both with serious injuries.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is leading this investigation. So far, the other driver has not been charged.
