LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
For Black Friday shoppers, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office
and the Lake Charles Police Department may be the most recognized form
of law enforcement around the Prien Lake Mall and big chain stores like
Best Buy.
But the Ward 3 Marshals are also out in force this year,
helping promote a safe environment for those out in the hustle and
bustle of the beginning of holiday shopping season.
"This
is our sixth year working the Black Friday special patrols," said Ward 3
Marshal Reserve Coordinator, Kevin Reeves. "Everybody who comes out and
works, does so without pay or recognition. They do it to help out."
The Marshals have been
working since 6 p.m. Thursday out of a command center in the parking lot
of Target on Prien Lake Road. They patrol in three locations: Target,
Sam's Club and Wal-Mart.
They plan to continue working, in three man shifts through the weekend.
"There were a lot of people last night. A lot of crowds, but we haven't had any issues as far as law enforcement," said Reeves.
Important to note: CPSO and LCPD are also patrolling in other heavily populated shopping areas.
More on the role of the Ward 3 Marshal's this Black Friday on later editions of 7News.
