The following is a news release from the Louisiana State Police, Troop D:

On Nov. 22, at 1:17 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 109 near Garrie Cut-Off Road between Vinton and Starks that claimed the lives of two men and critically injured a third.

A preliminary investigation revealed a 1996 Buick Roadmaster, driven by Donald Ray Richardson, 34, of Orange, Texas, was traveling north on LA 109 when the vehicle he was driving ran off the road and struck a tree. Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner's Office.

A rear seat passenger, Gregory Joseph Wilson, 40, of Starks, was transported from the scene with critical injuries and died at a local hospital shortly thereafter. The front seat passenger, Venroy Anthony Ogle, 29, of Brewster, Wash., was transported by air ambulance to a hospital in Beaumont, Texas with critical injuries. No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.

A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
