DEQUINCY, LA (KPLC) -

It began years ago as a youth group project for two families, and this year, Our Lady of LaSalette in DeQuincy plans to feed 250 families for Thanksgiving.

Local schools held a contest to collect canned goods and other necessary items for the feast.

The goods were transported to the church and divided into boxes for each family. Depending on the size of the family, they each received a turkey or a chicken.

Community members and members of other churches combined to help pack the boxes.

For many of the families, this is the only chance for them to have a true Thanksgiving meal.
