Linda Rios, the new Director of Salon Development for Salon Success Academy, will be responsible for improving the quality of customer service and increasing sales at the five school salons.

Linda Rios, an experienced stylist, salon owner, and beauty school educator, is the new Director of Salon Development for Salon Success Academy. As the Director of Salon Development, Rios will be in charge of improving customer service and increasing sales in the school salons for all five campuses. The changes she’s implementing won’t just help the salons; they’re designed to help the students, too. Rios wants to give students a more realistic experience of working inside a professional salon, so they’ll be more desirable to potential employers when they graduate.
Rios was chosen for the new position of Director of Salon Development because of her vast work experience in the beauty industry. She’s worked behind the chair as a licensed cosmetologist for over 35 years. She’s owned two salons throughout her career, one in Hacienda Heights and one in Ontario. She’s also worked as a cosmetology instructor for five years and was appointed the director of two beauty schools.
She was in the process of moving back to the Upland area when she submitted her resume to the Salon Success Academy corporate office. She had heard only great things about the beauty school and knew she wanted to work for the company. Bob Gross, the owner of Salon Success Academy, saw her credentials and felt she’d be the perfect fit for the new position of Director of Salon Development.
“Linda is a great addition to the Salon Success Academy family. Her experience as both a salon owner and an educator will greatly benefit our students. She’s exactly who we need to take our customer service to the next level,” Bob Gross said.
As the new Director of Salon Development, it is Rios’ responsibility to improve the customer service among students, increase client retention, and boost salon sales. She travels around to each of the five Salon Success Academy campuses once a week to work with students and better incorporate customer service into their training. With just one month under her belt, Rios has already trained students to give head and scalp massages and instructed them on how to give better client consultations. She’s also worked closely with the cosmetology instructors to make sure these customer service initiatives are being better incorporated into the curriculum.
Not only will these initiatives benefit the school salons, but they’ll also directly benefit the students. These changes will continue to improve the quality of education from Salon Success Academy and ensure that students are ready to work in a professional salon when they graduate. Rios hopes that now when a student is processing a client in the school salon, it will be the exactly the same as processing a client in a high-end salon.
“Now when students go looking for a job in a salon, they’re usually asked to do an audition. Salon owners will judge them on how fast they apply color or their scissor control. That’s why it’s so important that our students are salon ready when they graduate,” Rios said.
At Salon Success Academy, salon customers can receive the same exact services they’d receive in a high-end salon for a fraction of the price. The beauty school also offers monthly salon specials, which means certain services are discounted even further! All services are performed by students, under the supervision of licensed instructors.
