Civil actions against LaFuria end

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

What happened Thursday officially ends the civil actions against Dr. Peter LaFuria – the OB/GYN doctor who allegedly took pictures of patients without their permission and is accused of improperly touching some.

Lake Charles Attorney Ron Richard presented three checks from the last settlement at Oasis, which is the Calcasieu Women's Shelter.

The $75,000, in all, will help provide services related to sexual assault, domestic violence and sheltering women from abuse.

The family members of the woman who blew the whistle on LaFuria were there. The late Brandi Skye Taylor will be remembered for her courage.

"She was pretty sure she saw a camera in his hand. And instead of laying down and running away whenever people told her to be quiet, she raised enough stink to get the authorities involved, get the investigation kick started and get him sued," Richard said.

Taylor died recently after a brief illness.

Officials at Oasis said she will be memorialized at the Women's Shelter.
