Statement from Buy Local First

From Buy Local First:

Once again we stand by the County Commissioners and City Council and their staffs who did their jobs as required by Texas law.

The opposition has now raised this issue in three jurisdictions--City of Tyler, Smith County and Sulphur Springs and in all three their claims were resoundingly rejected.

The consultants hired by these groups have yet to be disclosed and it is clear by the timing of their actions today that they are attempting to influence the outcome of Tuesday's election. It is clear they know they are losing. So what they couldn't win at the ballot box, they will now try to win in the Courts.

Every citizen of Tyler and Smith County should be outraged at these frivolous actions and show their displeasure by making their voices heard on Tuesday with a resounding vote "FOR" Props 1 & 2 on both the City of Tyler AND the Smith County JP 2 ballot. And if you live in both, you get to cast "FOUR-FOR" votes.

The group asked voters to sign petitions calling for an election to allow:

  • "the legal sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only." By state law this will only allow beer and wine sold in places like grocery and convenience stores. This law will not allow packaged liquor sales.
  • "the legal sale of mixed beverages in restaurants by food and beverage certificate holders only" This version was overwhelmingly approved by City of Tyler voters in 2008. The current effort will expand sales to those areas annexed after the 2008 election and in all of JP 2.

This effort does NOT include package liquor sales.

A gym full of Orchids brightened up the Church of the Good Shepard today.  The Calcasieu Orchid Society held it's first ever show, free to the public.  There were displays, as well as orchids and artwork to buy, even a competition for cut arrangements and just general beauty. Judges from all over the country came to judge the competition and organizers say it was a huge success.  Copyright 2017 KPLC. All rights reserved.  More >>
