(Source: ASU)BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - More than 340,000 people voted early for the Nov. 6 election when the weeklong period to cast ballots before Election Day wrapped up.
That's nearly 12% of Louisiana's 2.9 million registered voters who have already made their decisions in the presidential race, congressional races and a slew of local competitions.
Early voting closed Tuesday. The latest data on how many people cast ballots during the time was posted online Wednesday by the Secretary of State's Office.
Lines were long in many places for early voting, and the turnout topped figures from the last presidential election. In 2008, about 292,000 people cast their ballots in advance of the election, according to data from the Secretary of State's Office.
