The state's first volunteer organized "Walk Like MADD" 5K event brought families affected by drunk driving together at Prien Lake Park this morning.
Families shared their stories of loss and recovery in the wake of losing a child at the hands of a drunk driver.
LSP and CPSO were also on hand to share the staggering statistics of the impaired driving epidemic in our area.
Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troopers arrested over 1,200 impaired drivers in the Troop D area last year.
Last year, Troop D investigated 18 fatal crashes resulting in 20 fatalities. Of those 20 fatalities, 10 (50%) were killed by impaired drivers (alcohol and/or drugs). Motorists are asked to designate a sober driver before heading to any location where alcohol may be consumed.
