CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -
The Calcasieu Parish School Board Food Services Department is removing the deep fryers from cafeterias throughout the parish.
Food Services Director Patricia Hosemann said cafeterias are going to start baking foods that normally would be fried, like chicken and French fries.
Hosemann said it's all part of the guidelines Food Services has to follow through the state department and under USDA regulations.
"We're only allowed to serve 10 grams of fat per day for lunch," she said. "So, you can see we're restricted when we have other items we have to put on the plate."
