CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office authorities say that from Monday, Oct. 29 through Wednesday, Oct. 31, the parish's Compliance and Awareness Unit and Warrants Division will be conducting address verifications of registered child predators throughout Calcasieu Parish.
Authorities say the effort is aimed toward the safety of the community.
The unit verifies the offenders' addresses, places of employment and vehicles on a monthly basis.
"The primary mission of this operation is to ensure that registered sex offenders are in compliance with state laws regulating residency, identification and activities during the Halloween season," a Sheriff's Office release states.
According to authorities, the CAP Unit and the Warrants Division of the Sheriff's Office has made contact with registered sex offenders in Calcasieu Parish to remind them they cannot wear masks or give candy to children during Halloween.
Offenders were also given an orange sign to post on their residence stating, "NO CANDY AT THIS RESIDENCE."
