DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) -
The former power lifting coach at Live Oak High School was arrested Friday after an investigation of inappropriate sexual behavior with girls.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said Thomas Broady, 25, of Denham Springs, is charged with 14 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile.
An arrest warrant for Broady says one case involved a 15-year-old student at Live Oak High School. The warrants says he allegedly had the girl "take her shirt, bra, and shorts off (while) measuring her for a power lifting uniform." According to the warrant, Broady allegedly "took a tape measure and measured around" the 15-year-old girl's chest while she was facing him with her breast exposed. The warrant alleges Broady had the girl take her shorts off and "remain in her panties while he measured her pelvic area."
Deputies said it is possible Broady allegedly had at least five other female students do similar things as they were measured for uniforms. However, the arrest warrant only mentioned allegations against one student, a 15-year-old girl.
Livingston Parish School System documents show Broady worked as a substitute teacher at Live Oak High in 2011 and 2012.
He also coached football and power lifting in 2011.
Detectives began looking into the allegations on October 11 after the parents of the 15-year-old girl notified the school about the alleged incident. Broady was approached by school officials about the allegations that same day and immediately resigned, school officials said.
He was arrested at his home Friday. At the time of his arrest, he was no longer working for the school system.
He was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
