LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
Lake Charles City officials and the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury celebrated the completion of a project years in the making on Thursday morning, as they cut the ribbon on the E. McNeese Street expansion project.
The expansion connects Highway 14 to Highway 397 and includes the parish's first roundabout at the intersections of Corbina Road and E. McNeese Street.
In addition to creating a more accessible route of travel, the city and police jury believe the expansion and roundabout will bring more economic growth to the already booming area of SWLA.
"We've built this expansion with appropriate drainage and water systems so that when businesses do start to develop along these acres of newly accessible land, they'll be able to develop properly," said City Administrator John Cardone.
Dennis Scott, vice president of CPPJ, said the project has been in the works since he's been in office and its completion is very significant.
"We've been working on this for at least five years," Scott said. "The completion is an example of what can be done for the greater community when we (the police jury) works with the city."
