LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
Women and Children's Hospital held a special reunion for graduates of its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The children came back Saturday to visit with the hospital staff and physicians who helped care for them during their stay.
The day was filled with games, face painting and several booths with prizes to celebrate the success stories. All of the children are now enjoying happy, healthy lives but their parents recall those first days when it was touch and go.
"It was very scary. I could only hold my baby for a few seconds and then they brought him to the NICU and I didn't get to hold him for like three days. It was just very stressful I couldn't sleep, but the staff was great," said Amanda Feemster, whose son Daniel was in NICU.
"Our twins were triplets. Our son passed away at five days of age. It was touch and go with these guys they were born at 24 weeks, but ultimately we are the best of the worst case scenarios and we got very, very lucky and they are doing wonderfully now," said Heather LeBlanc.
Women and Children's Hospital has been serving the Lake Area for 28 years.
