LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A local pastor is facing drug and DWI charges in Texas.

Pastor James Bertrand, 50, was arrested outside of Houston on Sept. 2.

According to records with the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Bertrand was arrested by a Texas State Trooper and booked on charges of possession of cocaine (one to four grams) and first offense DWI.

Bertrand bonded out on Sept. 3 on a $5,000 bail for the drug charge and $1,000 for the DWI.

At the time of his arrest, Bertrand used a Cypress, Texas, address, records reflect.

Bertrand is the pastor of the Power Church International in Lake Charles. He was a self-admitted recovering drug addict. You may remember him from the attention he received for his "Just For Jesus" student rallies at the Lake Charles Civic Center. The religious event was surrounded by controversy after gun shots rang out and violence ensued outside the rally in 2007.
