5th Annual Art on Wheels in LC

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

The fifth annual "Art on Wheels" rolled into Burton Coliseum. Car enthusiasts are showing off their rides.

Organizers said there are more than 75 cars, trucks and bikes on display - everything from classics to real works of art.

"This event really brings all walks of life together. You have car lovers and artists who are finding they have a lot in common," said Shonda LeFevre, Dago's Custom Paint.

Judging is underway and prizes will be awarded for different categories including originality and most unique. One of the top contenders is a gothic Volkswagen. Designed by Louisiana native W.T. Burge the handmade piece of art took three years to build.

"He has taken the concept of a custom car and gargoyles and meshed them into one. It's a Volkswagen front and has a Volkswagen motor. Covered in steal pieces we wash and buff it to keep it shiny," explained Noah Edmundson, Director of the Art Car Museum of Houston, Texas.

Proceeds from the event benefit three charities: Buddy Ball, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Alex's Lemonade Stand.

The Art on Wheels event goes on thru 10 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, children 12 and under get in free.

More great weather this weekMore great weather this week

Tonight, skies will be clear and we will have little to no chance for rain. It will not be as cold tonight. Temperatures will still get down to the 40s for Southwest Louisiana, so we should not see any freezing temperatures. If you head out tonight, you will still need to grab a light jacket. As we go through this week, the weather will be nothing less than perfect! We will have lots of sunshine and little to no chance for rain. We are on a gradual warming trend.
