The following is a news release from Louisiana State Police, Troop D:

On Sept. 21, 2012, at 3:30 p.m., a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Deputy was traveling on Louisiana Highway 27 near High Hope Road in Calcasieu Parish when he observed a motorist weaving on the highway, travel off the roadway and strike a mailbox, then travel back onto the roadway.  The deputy pulled the vehicle over.

Since the crash occurred on a state highway, Louisiana State Police Troop D responded.  Troopers determined the driver, 37-year-old William Allen Shoemake, of DeQuincy, was impaired.

Shoemake, who has a lengthy driving record and is on probation for previous DWI offenses, was arrested for DWI fourth offense, driving with a suspended driver's license, and careless operation.  He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.

Last year, 43 percent of fatal crashes in our state were caused by impaired drivers.  To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.
