GULF OF MEXICO (WAFB) -
The US
Coast Guard said two men were rescued after their airplane crashed in the Gulf
of Mexico.
The crash
happened about 28 miles east of South Pass Thursday.
Officials
said Theodore Wright and Raymond Fosdick, both of Baytown, TX, were safely
pulled from the water by a Coast Guard helicopter.
A spot
beacon from the pair's Beechcraft 55 Baron notified emergency responders.
The flight
was headed from Baytown to Sarasota, FL when it went down.
The crew on
a US Customs and Border protection plane saw the men in the water and contacted
the Coast Guard helicopter.
Fosdick was
taken to Ochsner Medical Center for treatment.
Wright
declined medical attention. He had nothing but praise for their rescuers.
"Those
guys were complete professionals and definitely knew what they were
doing," said Wright. "We were very happy when we saw them
arrive."
The cause of
the crash is under investigation.
