LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
A Lake Charles woman is accused of child desertion, according to a news release from Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson Kim Myers.
Authorities say 28-year-old Jemalla J. Vallare of Lake Charles was arrested Sept. 17 after deputies from the parish's civil division were dispatched to her home to serve paperwork.
"Upon arrival, deputies discovered three small children - a 4-year-old, 3-year-old and 1-year-old - had been left unattended inside the apartment. After returning home approximately an hour after deputies arrived, Vallare, a family member of the three children, confirmed she had left the children unattended for over an hour," the release states.
Vallare was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with three counts of child desertion. The children were taken into custody by the Department of Child and Family Services, Myers said.
Judge David Ritchie set Vallare's bond at $45,000.
Individuals arrested are presumed innocent unless proven otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.
