LAKE CHARLES (KPLC) - The McNeese State Cowboys are 3-0 to start the season for the first time since 2009, and one of the highlights from Saturday's game against Weber State was Diontae Spencer's 91-yard touchdown run, which set a new school record.
"Once I got to the sideline, I saw the endzone and I was just running," said junior wide receiver Diontae Spencer. "It actually happened kind of fast. I didn't even think it was 91-yards, but I was pretty happy."
"I was running down the field with him," said junior quarterback Cody Stroud. "It was exciting."
But the play that set up Spencer's record dash to the endzone came in the third quarter, a pick by number six, junior cornerback Guy Morgan. He was also named this week's SLC defensive player of the week.
"I was just excited," said Morgan. "Like I said, it was just another chance to make a play, it was a good opportunity."
"I thought that two play sequence was the turning point in the game, no question," said McNeese Head Football Coach Matt Viator. "You know we had turned it over, and then Guy makes that great interception, and then two plays later it's 21-7, and I thought that was the difference in the game."@
The Cowboys, undefeated on the season, will open up Southland Conference play this Saturday in Hammond, against the Southeastern Lions.@
