Lake Charles Black Rodeo packs coliseum

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Cowboys were riding high in the saddle at the Lake Charles Civic Center Saturday night. The Lake Charles Black Rodeo welcomed cowboys from all over the country to test their skills on some of the meanest bulls and broncos. It's part of the Dodge Ram Truck Rodeo Series.

The coliseum was packed with hundreds of spectators watching the cowboys try to not fall off. It's a dangerous sport but they said they ride because they love it.

"When I'm out there I'm just make 8 seconds. Just sit back, use my feet and go to it. I get a little nervous, every now and then I get butterflies in my stomach, but when they open that gate it all goes away," said Jimmy Patterson.

The rodeo also featured calf roping. Following the big event there was an after party at the Civic Center's Buccaneer Room.
