Grand Isle to evacuate ahead of Isaac

New Orleans TV stations are now reporting  Grand Isle has called for a mandatory evacuation of campers and tourists immediately. All island residents are required to leave by 9 a.m. Monday.

Jefferson Parish has also declared a State of Emergency ahead of the storm.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries released an announcement at 3 p.m., stating that it will temporary close of Elmer's Island, located on the southwestern tip of Jefferson Parish.  As a precautionary and preparedness measure, Elmer's Island will remain closed until further notice.

Earlier today the hurricane watch was extended along the Louisiana coast to include the New Orleans area ahead of Isaac.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is scheduled to hold a news conference on state preparations for Isaac at 3:15 p.m. You can view a live stream of the Governor's statement and 7 News will have an excerpt tonight on Nightcast after the NFL pre-season football game.

According to the Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, a hurricane watch means that hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area.

Officials say that this means that if you live in a watch area, you should be making your safety preparations now.
