Have you heard of Corey White, Marquise Johnson and Elbert Mack? If not, you will get to know them by the end of Thursday night's game against the Patriots. They are the healthy cornerbacks on the Saints roster.
Yesterday the team watched Johnny Patrick leave practice with a back injury. Patrick is projected to be a nickel cornerback this year for the Saints. He joins fellow cornerbacks Jabari Greer and Patrick Robinson on the injury list.
Asked if the injuries were cause for concern, new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo said, "Yes, we're kind of getting dinged up there now and I went through that last year unfortunately losing a lot of corners and don't want to do it again. I'd rather have it happen now, get them to bounce back and get them back from the regular season."
The good news for the Saints is Robinson hopes to return soon from a shoulder injury and Greer is expected back later in camp after undergoing sports hernia surgery.
Injuries to the starting cornerbacks will continue to be a concern for the Saints who hope to have all three back for the opener against the Washington Redskins September 9th in the Mercedes Benz Superdome.
