LONDON – LSU alumni Sylvia Fowles and Seimone Augustus combined for 21 points as the U.S. Women's National Team dismantled Canada, 91-48, to reach the London Olympic semifinals on Tuesday afternoon.
Fowles, a two-time All-American at LSU, had her highest output of the Olympics, putting in 12 points on 3-of-4 shooting to along with four rebounds. Augustus added nine points off the bench and raised her Olympic scoring average to 7.6 points per game. Augustus also had two steals, three rebounds and a block.
The Americans led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 19-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and a commanding 42-21 advantage at halftime. Team USA held Canada to 30 percent shooting and forced 22 turnovers, which led to 26 points.
Fowles scored all 12 of her points in a dominant fourth quarter. In a span of two minutes, Fowles notched 10 consecutive points for the Americans starting at the 8:43 mark.
Team USA now awaits the winner of China and Australia. The semifinal game will be played on Thursday at a time to be announced.
