AT&T, workers reach 'handshake' agreement on contracts

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - AT&T has announced that AT&T Southeast (BellSouth Telecommunications) has reached a handshake on a tentative agreement with the Communications Workers of America in contract negotiations.

Company officials, in a Monday news release, also said that AT&T reached "handshakes on tentative agreements with the CWA on two other smaller Southeast regional agreements covering AT&T Billing Southeast and Southeast Utility Operations."

Paperwork is reportedly being finalized.

Last week, Communication Workers of America staged an informational picket against AT&T in Lake Charles.

Workers said the pickets were a show of support for their bargaining committee.

The contract was slated to expire at 11:59 p.m. Saturday.
