BBB warning of scam that uses McNeese name

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

The Better Business Bureau is reporting a scam targeting local businesses that uses the McNeese State University name.

According to a news release from Carmen Million, BBB president, two out-of-state firms -- National Business Advertising, Florence, Kentucky and D & D Advertising, Cincinnati, Ohio -- are contacting local businesses, selling advertisement for an MSU schedule poster without permission from McNeese State University.

Million said McNeese State University is not receiving any proceeds from the sale of the advertising and has not endorsed the sales.

BBB warns businesses to investigate any offer before agreeing to purchase an advertisement.

Officials say always check it out directly with the agency it is supposed to support.

For more information, call the BBB at 337-478-6253.
