Lavergne pleads not guilty to murder charges

Brandon Scott Lavergne pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of first degree murder in the cases of Mickey Shunick and Lisa Pate.

Lavergne was arrested in connection with the disappearance of ULL student Mickey Shunick, who was last seen May 19.  He's also charged with aggravated kidnapping related to Shunick's case.

Pate's body was discovered in August 1999 between Church Point and Eunice after she disappeared 2 months prior.

Lavergne is being held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Judge Herman Clause set an October 9 deadline for attorneys to file motions related to the case.  All hearing dates will be set after that deadline.
