Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) - A bicyclist was struck from behind by a pickup truck early Saturday morning. He later died at the scene.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office says the accident happened just after 5 a.m., in the 7800 of Nelson Road in South Lake Charles. Sheriff's officials identify the victim as 52-year-old Mario Beltran. Officials say Beltran's bicycle was struck from behind by a pickup truck driven by 25-year-old Casey Richter. Beltran was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office says driver impairment does not appear to be a factor in the accident. Richter has been released, but officials confirm charges are pending as they continue to investigate the incident.
