Drew Brees and the New Orleans have agreed on the richest contract in NFL history, a 5-year deal worth $100 million. Brees will earn $40 million in 2012 and is guaranteed $60 million during the first three years of the contract.

Bress set the NFL single-season record for passing yards in 2011 and led the Saints to their first Super Bowl victory in 2009. In his six seasons with New Orleans, Brees leads the NFL in pass completions, yards, touchdowns, and completion percentage.

Brees and the Saints were facing a deadline of Monday at 3 p.m. to agree on a new deal, or Brees would have had to play the 2012 season under the Saints' franchise tag. Brees had said that without a long-term contract, he would not sign the franchise tender or report to training camp.
