NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A person familiar with contract negotiations between the Saints and Drew Brees says the two sides remain more than $10 million apart in guaranteed money.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity on Wednesday because the negotiations are ongoing and neither side has publicly discussed financial details of the talks, which have lasted for months.
Both Brees and the Saints have proposed five-year contracts worth about $100 million. The Saints are offering an average pay of $19.25 million while Brees is seeking closer to $20.5 million a year. But while those aspects of the proposals are similar, there is a larger difference in size and structure of guaranteed bonuses.
The two sides have until Monday at 4 p.m. Eastern to reach a deal.
