Friday Afternoon Headlines

Hello everyone. This is Cynthia Arceneaux from the KPLC Newsroom, where it's been quite a busy day.

First we traveled to Lafayette where police held a news conference on the arrest in the Mickey Shunick case. A sad ending to this long traumatic story because police now believe the 22-year-old is dead.  A St. Landry Parish man, Brandon Scott Lavergne has been charged with first-degree murder in the young woman's death.

Then it was on to Welsh, where police have a house surrounded. A suspect who had led police on a high speed chase was hiding out in the house in that Welsh neighborhood. We'll bring you the latest.

Also, one man is dead after a shooting in Beauregard Parish at Bundick Lake. A suspect, identified as Dana Plunkett, has been arrested.

Looks like we will see a more typical summertime weather pattern moving back into SWLA. A couple of disturbances will rotate through the south this weekend that will help to spark off more in the way of storms. During the afternoon hours these storms could combine with the daytime heat to create some small hail and strong gusty winds within the rain. We will see this pattern continue across SWLA for the next 5-7 days.

Those stories and more coming your way on Live at Five and 7 News at Six.
