City Council approves extra LCPD overtime

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The Lake Charles City Council has approved the Lake Charles Police Department to exceed its overtime budget. The City had budgeted for a $700,000 cap on overtime for this fiscal year but like years past expected the possibility for it to go beyond that figure.

"We've had to do this in years past. A lot of it has to do with Mardi Gras overtime. It's by far our biggest overtime events of the year," said Mayor Randy Roach.

The Council unanimously voted to amend the Operating and Capital Budget to include $100,000 additional plus the $50,000 in Mardi Gras overtime.

"This gives us a little flexibility to manage our overtime and to keep enough money available to do whatever we need to do for the remainder of the fiscal year," said Mayor Roach.

The current fiscal year ends September 30th.
