LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -Another local high school football star has his sights set on Death Valley. Junior Barbe tight end DeSean Smith has verbally committed to play football at LSU. He made the announcement Monday afternoon.
Smith is the 18th committment for Les Miles' 2013 recruiting class and the second tight end to join the group. At 6'4 220 pounds, Smith had at least 17 schools chasing after him. The tight end had said Alabama was the favorite earlier in the year, but eventually decided to go with the purple and gold.
This past Friday, Washington Marion linebacker Melvin Jones also made his verbal committment to play for the Tigers.
