Over the last couple of weeks someone has been circulating so-called BP oil claim forms in the Lake Charles area. While man, if not most medical claims associated with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill have been settled, someone is holding meetings around the Lake area trying to get people to sign up. ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

The Assumption Parish Police Jury says they continue to monitor the bubbles in the Bayou Corne and Grand Bayou waterways.

Officials say there is no explosive risk detected from any of the bubbling sites. Readings are taken twice a day and monitors have been placed in the community to detect any risk from the gas being released. The monitors have shown no risk. To see the readings, go to www.assumptionla.com/bayoucorne.

The LA Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) and the LA Dept. of Environmental Quality (DEQ) are attempting to access sites where abandoned wells exist to check for potential leaks using infrared monitoring.

Terrebonne and Lafourche parish Offices of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will be on site Monday to perform monitoring to validate the data that has already been collected and to provide mutual support.

If anyone has information on bubbling locations or about a potential origin of the gas, please contact the Assumption Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness at (985) 369-7386.
